Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I run RailPlanner over a network?
Yes. There are multi-user Windows licences for up to 15 or 50 users. We can also provide bespoke corporate multi-user licences. All are available at Bronze, Silver, or Gold subscription levels. RailPlanner Web is a browser-based solution - ideal for larger networks or multiple sites.

2. How much does RailPlanner cost?
Prices for Windows products can be found on the order form. Prices for Web licences and bespoke Windows licences can be provided on request.

3. How do I obtain a copy of RailPlanner?
Credit card orders can be taken over the telephone, by post, or by fax. Orders paid by cheque should be sent with a completed Order Form to the address below. We can invoice for orders of £400 or more in which case a purchase order must be either faxed or posted to us.

4. Is there an Apple-Mac version?
No. We have no plans to introduce Macintosh versions. RailPlanner should run on a Macintosh, however, with a Windows OS emulator.

5. Is the software available on CD-ROM?
RailPlanner is supplied on CD-ROM for installation, with updates made available by download from our website or, for Silver and Gold customers only, on a single CD-ROM.

6. What are the hardware requirements/minimum specification?
This information can be found on the products page within the detailed product description.

7. What happens at the end of my subscription?
Existing RailPlanner subscribers will be sent a renewal reminder and order form approximately a month before their current subscription is due to expire.

8. How do I obtain timetable updates?
RailPlanner customers will receive updates either on CD or by download at the frequency determined by their subscription level. In the case of download customers, an email notification will be sent when each update becomes available.

9. How accurate is RailPlanner?
The timetable data is accurate at the time of production as long as the Train Operating Companies honour their commitment to submit any changes to the timetable 12 weeks in advance. The RailPlanner Gold subscription service provides regular updates, which include all planned changes to the timetable throughout the year.

10. Why does RailPlanner recommend some journeys which are not recognised fare routes?
RailPlanner is not tied to fares and therefore finds the quickest/most direct route possible.

11. I have bought a single user version of RailPlanner and now wish to change to the network/Web version. Is this possible and how much will it cost?
Just contact our Sales team and you will be quoted a price to upgrade to a network/Web version. The upgrade price will depend upon the time remaining on your existing subscription.

12. Is there an Internet update available for RailPlanner?
Yes. Silver and Gold subscribers can download their updates from this web site as an alternative to receiving CD updates. Bronze subscribers receive updates by download only. Further details can be found on the Internet Update page.

13. How often is RailPlanner produced? How often does the timetable change?
There are two major timetable changes each year, one in June and one in December. Bronze subscribers receive quarterly updates for the period of their subscritpion. Silver subscribers receive either quarterly updates on CD or bi-monthly updates by download. Gold subscribers receive 8 updates on CD or monthly updates by download.

14. May I load my Single User RailPlanner on more than one computer?
No. The licence permits the software to be loaded onto only one hard disk.

15. Does RailPlanner include changes due to engineering works?
Yes, if they are planned in advance of the software's production. The number of updates provided to Gold subscribers ensures that all scheduled engineering works are included.

16. Is RailPlanner available in other formats?
Yes. Web (browser-based), WAP, SMS and touch-screen kiosk versions of CityPlanner and RailPlanner are also available. Further details of these products can be found on the Products page.
